День хіджабу в ІКЦ м. КиєваAccording to Amal Tkachenko, a member of the Ukrainian Muslimahs League, some of the present non-Muslim women were quite well acquainted with the history of Islam and the essence of the creed, so it can be said that such cultural and educational events do have an effect.

In Odesa, activists of the Ukrainian Muslimahs League talked about the image of a woman in world art, the history of the hijab, and the tradition of veiling in different nations of the world – from antiquity to the present. День хіджабу в ІКЦ м. Одеса“Organizing such an event is an opportunity to tell people about our religion, about the hijab, about a woman in a hijab, and thus reduce the level of stereotypical thinking in Ukraine. Such information will help non-Muslims to better understand Muslims and the Islamic religion, and us, Ukrainians, to find a common language and be united.”

In Lviv, World Hijab Day in Lvivthe guests of the event organized by activists of the Ukrainian Muslimahs League were mostly non-Muslim women. This corresponds to the main goal of the day: to convey undistorted information about the hijab to followers of other religions, to disprove misconceptions, to talk about the rights of Muslim women. The attendees learned, in particular, that Islam actually gives a woman inner freedom.

As Dinara Amrullaeva, an activist of the Ukrainian Muslimahs League, reported, the program also included stories about the tradition of covering up, which women in Ukrainian society have long followed.день хіджабу у Львові

“The guests learned about the women’s clothing of the nations of the Muslim world. Competitions and quizzes also helped to consolidate knowledge about the rights and status of women in Islam. Those present enjoyed trying to put a hijab, painting [hands] with mehendi, and trying on the image of a veiled Muslim woman. The women were photographed in special photo zones, and they were treated to sweets and hot drinks,” said Ms. Dinara.

Islamic cultural centers of Ukraine continue their charitable actions.  This time, activists of the Ukrainian Muslimahs League, with the support of the international charitable organization Human Appeal, distributed 200 sets of household chemicals.

Ліга мусульманок України роздала понад 200 наборів побутової хіміїVolunteers of Ukrainian Muslimahs League in Kyiv, Vinnytsia and Lviv helped those who were most in need of support during this turbulent time.  Each kit contained laundry detergent, shampoo, soap, toothpaste, tissues, detergents, trash bags, personal care products, etc.

The project consisted of three stages: the first took place in Lviv, where 50 sets were distributed, the second was implemented in Kyiv — 100 sets of household chemicals;  the last promotion was held in Vinnytsia, where people received 50 such sets.

According to the head of the Ukrainian Muslimahs League, Niyara Mamutova, the majority of aid recipients are immigrants from the eastern part of Ukraine:

“Now it was very important and necessary to distribute sanitary kits to women, because most of the families are immigrants from the eastern part of Ukraine, where they fled from the war, leaving all their belongings behind.  Certainly, no one, fleeing, took hygienic means with them.  They were also distributed to women who returned home.  In such difficult times, I wanted to help as much as possible.  The sets included the most necessary and useful things for the family.”

Those who received help sincerely thanked the organizers:

“The war and the unstable economic situation in the country affect the situation of Ukrainians.  The Council of Ukrainian Muslims understands the importance of such actions to support those who need it the most”, says one of the parishioners of the Vinnytsia ICC.

At the same time, according to Ms. Niyara, she does not perceive literacy as a personal achievement:

нагороджені волонтери та громадські і релігійні діячі— Although the certificate is signed with my name, I believe that this award from the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is given to every woman who cares about what is happening around her.  This is the achievement of all Muslim women working with us in the same team in different cities, implementing their ideas, donating their time to charity and volunteering, extending a helping hand to those in need.  They shared kindness before the war and continue today.  I know many women who may never receive a diploma, but they really do alot for Ukraine and society.  Therefore, I ask Allah to give the best reward to everyone who fills life with good deeds, and to our country – victory and peace.
